Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition Kopavogur, Iceland

Events in Iceland

The Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition is the largest fishing event in the North and is organised once in three years by Mecator Media. Initially established in 1984, the event has now grown to become an internationally renowned event in the fishing sector. The Icelandic Fisheries Exhibitions have been known to draw crowds more than 12,000 attendees from all over the world. The next Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition will be held in Kopavogur, Iceland and is expected to draw even more attendees.

The show deals with various aspects of the fishing industry, right from the construction and design of various fishing boats to the packaging and processing of sea food. In spite of the recent economic recession, the earlier Icelandic Fisheries Exhibitions were very successful and managed to garner more than 500 exhibitors from 33 countries who exhibited sophisticated products built on the latest technology. The exhibition caters to the demands of the commercial fishing industry and creates great interest in the global fishing community whenever it is organised.

The Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition gives various awards to exhibitors and attendees for the best new product, the best individual stand and the best group stand. The awards are given in recognition of various outstanding accomplishments of individuals as well as companies from all over the world. The winners are permitted to display the award logo on their marketing paraphernalia. One event recorded 13 awards that were given to individuals as well as companies for various records.
Visitors can easily access the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition from any of the region’s major hotels. The venue offers ample parking space and a number of world-class restaurants. The official airline for the exhibition is Icelandair.

Icelandair is also a good airline for getting to Kopavogur, a city which is just a few miles outside the capital on the outskirts of the Reykjavik. Transport to Kopavogur from Reykjavik is quite straight forward and you can very easily commute the 20 minutes or so to Kopavogur if you choose to stay in a Reykjavik hotel or short-term holiday apartment. Reykjavik is an exciting city to find oneself in for a few days and despite the recent economic problems in the country, the country if culturally strong and people very friendly. If you get the chance for some time off after the event, be sure to try and visit the Blue Lagoon spa, Geysir and if time permits, see the Northern Lights.
