A Freight Guide to Moving Industrial Machinery

It is necessary to understand the complex logistics of transporting industrial machinery before you get involved in shipping heavy consignments.
As most of the machinery used in industries tends to be heavy (sometimes weighing over a 100 tons), such shipments are classified as heavy lift cargo because industrial machinery does not fit into regular containers. Therefore, when heavy machinery has to be transported across countries, great care must be taken to ensure that the right containers are used and all regulations are followed.

To transport industrial machinery, it is necessary to send the consignment either by special trucks or flatbed trailers which have extra loading areas. Cargo aircrafts like the Antonov AN-225 can also be used for this purpose. However, aircraft carriers can be expensive and it is advisable that they be used only in the case of emergency shipments or for consignments that are on a short timeline

A third alternative for transporting industrial machinery is by ship and this is by far the most economical method of transporting a heavy consignment. Most freight companies prefer to use barges for transporting industrial machinery over inland waters, but when transporting industrial goods by sea, special vessels fitted with on board cranes are used to facilitate the loading and unloading of cargo.

It is also important that you make a well informed decision regarding the freight company that will handle your shipment. Industrial machinery requires storage and maintenance both before and after transportation, and all the top freight companies offer storage and maintenance faculties as part of their service package.

Another important consideration while choosing a freight company to transport industrial machinery is their meticulousness. It is also necessary that the freighting company you decide to hire, possesses sufficient knowledge about the documentation involved, customs clearances necessary, and the best possible routes to use to get to the target destination.
