Freight companies are also keen on providing exporters and importers with greater security in terms of consumer privacy and better measures being taken against theft and loss of goods. This includes the use of stronger containers and better customs laws and more detailed documentation, in addition to insurance.
With the decline in the economy, the freight forwarding industry has been forced to look for more cost effective methods of transporting goods. As a result, multimodal
transport has become more of a norm and traders are now looking at better routes efficiency of transport to help cut down on timelines.
Other trends now evident in the freight forwarding industry include the development of identification systems for products to help in tracking and shipping, ensuing that even the smallest of consignments reaches it destination safely.
There is a trend to develop a freight code that is universal to help with documenting and tracking international freight transport. This growth has also a great improvement in packaging methods to reduce the chance of breakage, pests and spillage.
