Latest Freight updates and news (April 2010)
Perishable Freight and the Volcanic Ash
It has been a bit of a crazy two weeks with the volcanic ash problems and with the closure of air space in many parts of Europe. This had a definite affect on Air Freight movement, although inter-modal freight combining sea and rail freight meant that some air freight could still be moved.
It was the inbound perishable freight stocks that were affected the most with several countries in Asia and the Caribbean finding themselves stuck
with containers full of perishable freight (mostly foods) which they had nowhere to send to.
The freight in the end has had to be either destroyed or sold at local markets at reduced rates. The good news is that Freight movement is back to normal and is running at full steam again.
