Latest Freight news updates - U.S. out of recession (29th October 2009)

It has certainly been a tough time for many of us in the Freight Forwarding and Logistics industry in the last year and extremely welcome news has come out today in that the U.S. is officially out of recession - a recession which many news outlets are saying was the worst recession in 70 years! So what does it mean for the freight industry now?

• Despite the bad news domestically this last week, in the UK, with the UK still in recession until at least the next results are released in January 2010 - the U.S. news should mean a very positive impact on worldwide trade.
• The U.S news should surely boost confidence worldwide and help to drag the UK economy also back into the black economically.
• If the U.S. news today has been different and shown that both the UK and U.S. were still in recession, it could have been a bloodbath on the stock market. The significance of today's results thus will be excellent news to many and leading into Christmas, consumers worldwide will surely gain confidence.
• Unemployment statistics expected out next week will most likely show a rise in U.S. unemployment. This should not affect confidence in the manufacturing and trade industries though with unemployment stats known to statistically rise for 3 - 6 months after a recession officially ends.
• Specifically for the freight industry - increased production and thus the need for more metals, extra need for oil for running manufacturing and increased need for consumer goods - all mean that the freight industry should now begin to move forward!
