The Freight indusry and the Stock market (Freight News - Sep. 2009)

A lot of good news alll around with the Freight Industry for September 2009. The economy is picking up gradually and the feel good factor is begining to return.

• The FTSE has risen to over 5100 points and manutacturing, metals and construction companies share prices have risen well in recent weeks. Xstrata for example has risen 30% in the last 2 months and companies such as Costain and Balfour Beatty are improving. What does this all mean for the Freight Forwarding, logistics and shipping industry?
• Once confidence begins gradually to return after a recession, metals prices begin to return. Aluminium for example is used in the construction of houses and cars and as manfacturing and construction pick up, this is reflected in increased demand for metals.
• For the freight industry, as metals, engineering, construction and manufacturing demand increases, the direct need for Freight Forwarding and shipping then improves. New cars get shipped, manufactured goods get forwarded and raw products need to be moved.
• Conclusion: The signs are very good for the Freight industry with the recession certainly seeming to be over with and even if a double dip in the economy occurs, it should be minimal. The hope is that everyone in the Freight industry will soon see business begin to grow again.
