Importing and exporting has evolved to be one of the largest and most profitable sectors for businesses in the UK. Two of the most attractive characteristics of the import/export industry are that there is reasonably little initial investment required, although this is subject to the line of work you choose, and the glamour of working with clients from abroad.

One of the most important aspects of import/export is deciding what products you will concentrate on, and once you have established that you will need to establish where you will source them. This will give you a credible image and make people believe in what you have to offer. You should conduct a considerable amount of research and be up to date with the current affairs affecting your chosen industry. Sales skills will be key in determining the levels of success which you experience, so either brush up on your skills, go on a course or, alternatively, acquire a partner who has a suitable skill set.

Establishing a headquarters will be essential for the success of your business, as not only will it convey a professional image when entertaining potential clients or partners, it will also give you a place which you associate with work, somewhere where you can be entirely focused on what you are doing away from all of the distractions.
